Top 5 Film & Television Apps Performance in Africa Q2 2021

In Q2 2021, the top film and television applications in Africa showed varied performance trends on a unified platform, combining data from both iOS and Android. Here are the highlights for the top five apps: Showmax, StarTimes ON, Netflix, Viu -Stream TV Shows & Serials, and Shahid - ﺷﺎﻫﺪ.

Showmax saw a significant rise in weekly downloads, peaking at around 427K in mid-April. Despite a peak in downloads, weekly active users showed a slight decline from 1.78M in April to 1.4M by the end of June. The app did not generate any revenue during this period.

StarTimes ON experienced a notable increase in weekly downloads, reaching up to 582K in late June. Correspondingly, weekly active users rose from 74K in March to 585K by the end of June. Revenue, while modest, peaked at $229 in late May.

Netflix maintained consistent weekly downloads, averaging around 130K. Weekly revenue showed a steady trend, peaking at approximately $25K in late April. The number of active users fluctuated slightly, from around 3.74M at the start of the quarter to 3.86M by the end of June.

Viu -Stream TV Shows & Serials saw a peak in weekly downloads at 218K in mid-April. Weekly revenue showed a slight upward trend, with the highest earnings at around $4.4K in early May. Active users remained relatively stable, averaging around 1.2M.

Shahid - ﺷﺎﻫﺪ demonstrated significant fluctuations in weekly downloads, peaking at 209K in mid-April. Revenue trends were relatively stable, with a peak of approximately $18.7K in mid-April. Active users showed a downward trend from 533K in mid-April to 237K by the end of June.
